Book Review: Doodletopia: Cartoons by Christopher Hart

Doodletopia: Cartoons by Christopher Hart

At some point late in 2015 I decided that I really needed to expand my reading. Usually I stick to themes that I'm comfortable with like fantasy, psychological thrillers, general fiction, etc. Then I found Christopher Hart's Doodletopia: Cartoons* on Blogging for Books and decided to give it a try!

One (pleasantly) unexpected outcome of even having this book on my shelf was that it sparked interest in my brother. He likes to draw and when he saw this book it became something we read together. Hart outlines different cartoons for the reader on one page and then the next page is blank to give you room to draw. Some of the drawings are pre-outlined and some are not.

As someone who can only draw basic shapes and stick figures, I would have loved if there was some more direction in the book. I don't think this is for absolute beginners like myself, but if you've ever dabbled in drawing in the past this might be perfect for you. For my brother it was ok because he's tried other tutorials that show you how to use basic shapes to create works of art.

Overall I think Doodletopia: Cartoons is a fun book to try out. It would make a great gift for a budding artist and a fun activity for people to do together.

*I received this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review.
