2016 Reading Challenge

Happy New Year, everyone! To ring in 2016 my friend Jess at Defining My World and I decided to do a book challenge together! We haven't really found a book club or reading challenge that fits our interests or schedules, so we decided to create our own! The #ReadBetter16 challenge is our way to combine book club + reading challenge.

So why haven't we been able to find something that works for us before? In all the book clubs we've been part of we've undoubtedly read something that was definitely repurposed wallpaper and couldn't even switch it out for another book because "the group" wanted to read it. The problem with existing reading challenges is that some of the themes are just too out there and not worth the effort.

Now, Jess and I are really pragmatic readers. That means that when we start reading a book that clearly sucks we drop it. You can't exactly do that when you're in a book club or trying to follow a very specific reading challenge. We wanted to do something in 2016 that allows us to read books together and discuss them, but also gives us an easy out to bad books. That's why we came up with the #ReadBetter16 challenge. It's a reading challenge we created together and customized to our tastes. To keep the social aspect of "book club" alive we decided to read 1 book per quarter together. Of course that won't stop us from discussing our personalized reads with each other!

The first book I'll be reading for the Self-Help theme is Leave Your Mark: Land Your Dream Job. Kill It in Your Career. Rock Social Media. by Aliza Licht.

We'll be using #ReadBetter16 on Instagram and Twitter - feel free to join us and share your 2016 reads!
