Book Review: The Sunlight Pilgrims by Jenni Fagan

The Sunlight Pilgrims* by Jenni Fagan is about a small trailer park community living through the worst winter caused by climate change. People are freezing to death in their homes because of open windows, but humanity is still trying to carry on as normally as they can. The story follows 2 main characters: Dylan and Stella. Dylan moved to the trailer park after the death of his mother and grandmother and Stella is a transgender girl who lives in the trailer park with her mother. The 3 characters end up spending time together and each individually goes through their own emotional journey.

That's really all I can write about this book because I couldn't finish it. I read half of the book and just couldn't do it anymore. I was initially excited about this book because of the ~dystopian~ feel, but at the end of the day it was just a tough read for me. There were some parts of this book that I thought were wonderful, if not brilliant, but then that flicker of hope would drag on and just kill the moment.

I'm sure there is an audience for this book, but unfortunately I just couldn't connect to the story.

*I received this book from Blogging for Book in exchange for an honest review.
