A few weeks ago I read the entire Percy Jackson series and fell in love with it. When I finished it I thought, "ah crap, I want to read more!!" Then by some miracle my wish was granted and I received a copy of The Immortals (Olympus Bound)* by Jordanna Max Brodsky! Before I get into the review let me just say that I absolutely loved this book. It was everything I wanted and I am so happy that it's finally released!

The book is about the Gods and Goddesses of Olympus and how they are managing in the mortal world. This book has been compared to Lev Grossman's The Magicians as the adult version of the Percy Jackson series. Now I've read The Magicians and the Percy Jackson series and here's my 2 cents: 1. The Magicians is not the adult Harry Potter I imagined, therefore I'm offended by that comparison and 2. The Immortals is definitely the adult Percy Jackson and it's awesome.

The main character is Selene DiSilva and she is a total badass. Selene is every woman at some point in her life: angry, strong, stoic, graceful and empathetic. Her character is incredibly complex and relatable. I don't think it's particularly easy to write a character like Selene, but I must say Brodsky has done a fantastic job. Knowing which Goddess Selene is, it makes total sense that she has many facets to her personality.

The story is full of plot twists, thrills, romance, action and Greek mythology. I love the ending because it reads as a stand-alone book even though it's the first book in a series. That's probably not the intention, but there is enough intrigue to pick up Book 2. Personally I am a bit *over* series, so this was perfect for me. Because Selene is a complex character the rest are refreshingly simple. I think that's perfect because more than 1 or 2 complex characters makes my head spin.

The last part of the book that I really enjoyed was the author's note. I usually skip that part of books (sorry, I just really love books for the story and not much else,) but this time I read the author's note in its entirety. That's because it explained all of the Greek mythology PLUS what scholars have to say about the mythology. I thought that it was brilliant to end a fiction novel with some real academic points.

I found this book to be extremely well balanced and I truly enjoyed it from beginning to end. This is one of the few books I give a 5 star rating. The Immortals (Olympus Bound) was released a few days ago. Be sure to grab a copy and settle in for a wild ride!

*I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
